Individual Therapy

At Brave Passages, we see children, adolescents, and adults for a wide variety of reasons.  Initial sessions generally occur weekly and last for 50-minutes.  Goals are personalized depending on what rings the client into therapy.  People generally come to therapy because they are experiencing pain or discomfort.  Initial sessions involve identifying what brings you to therapy and helping to manage that emotional pain and bring some relief while the underlying causes of more complex issues are explored.  Throughout treatment, we will assess what progress has been made and ways that we can refine your goals in order to help bring about the changes you wish to manifest.

Couple Showing Affection

Couples Therapy

There is no one-size-fits-all format when it comes to relationships.  Every individual is unique, and when they create intimate relationships with a partner or partners, they are creating something entirely new.  This is particularly true for relationships that don’t follow the cultural norm, such as LGBTQIA+, ethical non-monogamy, polyamory, and kink.  In couples therapy, we will work to identify the areas for growth within your relationship, and the inherent strengths of the relationship which can be used to support the goals of both partners.

Letters for
Gender Affirming Care
and Emotional Support Animals

At Brave Passages, we conduct assessments for gender affirming care letters and for emotional support animal letters.  These assessments can take place in person or virtually as long as the client is located in California.  Letters to evaluate the need for an emotional support animal generally involve 2 sessions and requires a minimum of 30 days, as required by the state of California.

Letters in support of gender affirming care adhere to WPATH standards to assist in fulfilling requirements for surgeons and insurance companies.  Assessment for letters of support generally involves 1-3 sessions to evaluate preparedness for surgery.  I approach these evaluations as an advocate for trans and non-binary clients and work to not only provide the required documentation as you move forward in your gender affirming journey, but to provide you with community, state, and national resources to expand your support network.

What Next?

Reaching out for support can be one of the most challenging and vulnerable steps in the therapeutic process.  It takes self-awareness and courage, and can feel more than a little intimidating.  My goal is to answer your questions and de-mystify the process so that you know what to expect.  Here is a step by step outline of what happens if you decide to reach out to see if we are a good fit.

Ask Questions

Ask any questions that you may have about treatment or services.  One of the most important parts of therapy is finding a good fit between client and therapist.  We can also have a 15 minute phone call or zoom appointment to talk if you would like to ask questions in that form rather than using e-mail.

3

Paperwork

I will send you paperwork to complete in advance of your first appointment.  You can scan and e-mail in the completed paperwork, or simply bring it to your first appointment.  If you have any questions while completing it, please reach out and ask.  I am always happy to clarify!

4

Initial Appointment

If you would like, we can schedule an initial appointment.  There is no commitment during that appointment.  During this time, we are exploring if this is a good therapeutic fit that can support you in reaching your goals.
